FO: Jacob's Woobie Monkey

It's been a long time coming, but I've finally put a face on the lingering project for an online sweetheart who had an adorable baby boy named Jacob.

Woobie-Monkey-FO-Jacob

I personalize the blanket with the initial J using a stem stitch embroidery technique. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I'm shipping this in the mail in hopes that Jacob adores it as much as I do.

The only downside to making something so cute...getting asked by everyone if I can make them one too! I love each and everyone of you out there, but there is no way that will happen.

Want to make one? Sure, go here to buy the pattern for the monkey!

Callahan Cabled Blanket

I'm sure you're wondering what I've been up to?

Well, let me just share with you a little something...

Callahan-blanketBaby2

The Callahan Cable Blanket was inspired by my cousin's first born son, Finnegan David Callahan. I've always wanted to do a big cable design and when I heard she was with child I knew it was time.

Callahan-blanket3

There are so many kinds of cables to choose from, but there were certain ones that I knew had to be in the blanket. These cables had meaning and in a way had a story to tell. You have hugging ropes guarding each side that lead to textured honeycomb panels. There are twists and turns going in and out leading to the X and O cables that represent hugs and kisses. The hillsides mirror each other with intertwining trees that show two families coming together. Then in the center you have an infinity knot that means eternal love.

Martha-blanket-Love

The lovely little model is Martha, my niece. She was only 4 weeks old the day of the shoot. Born just days after little Finnegan and was a trooper through our all day photo shoot.

FO: Eternal Knot Baby Blanket

Here is the main reason for much silence on the blog lately. Knitting for a knitter is hard... and keeping it a secret can be a challenge.

What's even funnier is having your knitter friend cast-on for the same blanket. Oh did we have a good laugh over that one.

butkus-blanket-fo2

Pattern: Eternal Knot Baby Blanket by Daniel Yuhas

Yarn: 7 skeins of Encore Worsted

Needles: US 8 circular needle

Started: February 10, 2011

Finished: April 9, 2011

I cast-on for 20 loops and modified it by using a provisional cast-on to keep those stitches live for the set-up row. I then realized that I preferred a more traditional method of cables and changed the garter stitch to stockinette.

Liking the more tight cables I then decided to add another cable twist, but didn't want to change the overall structure too much. This lead to me adding a cable twist on the wrong side and still stay in pattern.

butkus-blanket-fo3

Overall it's a great pattern. I did have to buy a few more skeins just because the tighter cables were eating up the yardage.

FO: Lo-Lo's Sweet Baby Cap

SweetBabyCap-Lolo-FO1

Pattern: Sweet Baby Cap by Gro

Yarn: .5 skein Socks that Rock in Heavy Weight

Needles: US 5 Double Pointed needles

Started: December 29, 2010

Finished: January 15, 2011

I gave you a quick sneak-peak in my Project 365 shot yesterday on a new finished object. The family came over for Super Bowl and I was happy to see the hat fit little Lo-Lo perfectly.

SweetBabyCap-Lolo-FO2

Soon after these pictures where shot he began to pull and tug the hat off. I forget how quick babies can be and how much they don't understand the need for a great hat photo!!

SweetBabyCap-Lolo-FO3

He is so freakin' adorable it just melts you. The one thing he has inherited is his mother's dimples. I think my camera would have melted too if I actually caught any glimpse of that smile;)

Little Additions

Thank goodness that those booties were done because over the holiday weekend we had a little addition enter into the family. Baby LP came into the world July 3rd at 5:18am at 6 lbs 15.5 oz and 19 inch long.

logan1

Seeing this little peanut just reminds me of my own son who was also that small not too long ago and to look at him now at 6 ft 4 inches... it's amazing how fast they grow. sigh.

I was also excited to see this little guy sporting the new booties on Sunday for our little BBQ.

Logan-w-booties

Oh, how I love babies. It's funny how seeing him wearing these made me want to raid my stash and cast-on for something super cute to go with these booties!

Mac-smile-070410

Miss Mac was also excited to see the new baby.

mac-logan

She held him for a very long time. Even feeding him a bottle when he started to cry. She was gentle and loving... I could see that twinkle in her eye that she would love to be a mommy some day. That is when I burst out with "You wait until after collage to go having babies okay?!" She turned to me and said. "okay mommy."

Some knitting has been done this week...

Coraline-sleeve2

One Coraline sleeve is ready to be placed on a stitch holders and I'll be casting-on for the second sleeve this weekend.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I have been avoiding you. I'm sorry about that. It has been a very rough month and I just wanted to deny that it ever happened. Some of you know what I'm talking about and thank you for all your support.

So lets start on a Good note.

baby-booties-annbud-purple

Better-Than-Booties Baby Socks are done. Now my Sister-in-law can officially have the baby and I'm hoping that these little knits moves things along for her.

Now for the Bad.

There has been an upsetting turn of events for my new Featherweight Cardigan. I knew this would happen and I didn't listen to myself. sigh. I had been wearing my new cardigan everyday and enjoying it tremendously. When I was done I would roll it up and stick it in my huge purse and la-de-da. Well, there must have been too much movement and shuffling in the purse and the best I can tell, my wallet must have tussled with it.

FWC-Bad

The purse won that fight hands down. I shake by head because it still hurts to even look at it.

Then I discovered the Ugly.

FWC-Ugly

What you see there is a full tear on that pull. I know. It's hard to even fathom. I knit that sweater for 3 months and only got to wear it for three days and WHAM!

After talking with some very helpful and knowledgeable knitters, I can fix this. I just don't think I'm prepared mentally and emotionally just yet.

My only other option is to embrace the Steampunk fashion

Quiet Blog = Surprise Knitting

There was a certain someone who is due for a bundle of joy come next year. We were graced with her presence this past weekend to laugh among friends and family and have our fills of good eats and cheesecake.

I completely wanted to steal this quilt right out of her hands... but I think I would have been tackled half way down the block.

This makes me want to SOOOOOOO learn how to quilt.

When you've got knitting friends, you end up with knitted presents. The knitted mobile is sweet and precious.

The Big Head stories started coming out about this point and as we watched her try to put all the ribbons over her head.... Sweetheart, I pray that your baby is health, but with a small head.

Dreamsweaver did a fabulous job on this basket weave blanket. The yarn is soft and completely washer and dryer friendly, how awesome is that!

I apologize now for the awkward photo... I do hope you like the Baby Surprise Jacket and Sweet Baby Cap. It was fast and fun... They turned out so damn cute that it was quite hard for me to part with them. Granted I'm not going down that road again, but sheesh what fun they are to knit.

Pattern: Baby Surprise Jacket (rav link)

Yarn: 2.25 skeins Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino

Needles: US 3 circular

Started: September 27, 2009

Finished: September 30, 2009

Note: I had to dip into another skein in order to finish the sweater.

The Peter Rabbit buttons were a great idea, big thanks to A:) for that suggestion.

Pattern: Norwegian Sweet Baby Cap (rav link)

Yarn: .5 skeins Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino

Needles: US 3 circular

Started: September 27, 2009

Finished: September 30, 2009

The cap was reworked to be a small newborn size cap and I modified the pattern to be in garter stitch to match the sweater.

I'm putting in a request to the Soon-To-Be-Mommy... I know you'll be sleep deprived and most likely wont even remember this, but if you do by chance happen to remember, I would love to know if these items fit. It's not often you have a newborn peanut just laying around handy to check for measurements.

Mazel Tov to you and E on your growing family!

Better Then Booties

Pattern: Better Then Booties Baby Socks by Ann Budd (click on the link to download the free pattern, who knows how long that will last)

Yarn: 1 ball Dale Baby Ull

Needles: US 1 dpn

Started: February 15, 2009

Finished: February 24, 2009

Comments: Seriously? How can you not resist baby socks! Quick and oh so satisfying. One ball of the Dale Baby Ull could probably pump out three pairs. It was a different construction then I've done before, with a short-row toe that is bound off on top of the foot. A good go-to pattern for quick baby socks.

This fine pair was delivered to a newbie in the world, Asher Samuel. He is quite a cutie and took center stage this weekend with family and friends all around.

FO: Marley

Pattern: Marley by Susan B. Anderson and printed in Itty-Bitty Hats.

Yarn: Cascade Cotton Rich (5 skeins in different colors)

Needles: 16 inch, US 7 circ's

Started: February 14, 2009

Finished: February 15, 2009

Comments: What fun it was to see this hat transform right before my eyes. I purchased a bunch of different primary colors and rotated them out depending on how the pattern was. The topper curl in the pattern would have you make one in each color, but I chose to pick one. I think it suits the scale of the finished hat and adds that little bit of fun had I left it out.

One Finished Object and One on the Way

I've been doing some secrete knitting, as it was a gift for my Sister-In-Law. I think she reads every now and again, so I didn't want her getting any peeks at this project I was doing for her little one to come.

My SIL is due to have baby Hunter around October 12. She is seriously close, but anyone who's been in that situation knows it's the worst part. Each day, hour and minute seems like an eternity.

When I was trying to come up with something to make for the Little One... I knew it had to be unique. It had to be something that fit the mom's taste. I then remembered a conversation I had with her about the new Harry Potter movie coming up in November (alas I do know that they've moved the release date - jerks!) and that she was wondering if taking Hunter would be possible.

Since he would be perhaps a month old by then I told her he would most likely sleep right through it. That is when I got this idea. It was brilliant. I was so super psyched about it. I bought me some hunter green and silver (gray) yarn from Knit Picks.

I then cast-on for a Slytherin Baby Bag. Yep, a snake wraps around the body to then rest on the left hand shoulder. Complete with buttons at the bottom to access for changing. I presented the gift in hopes that it would entice labor, but no good.

She was jumping up and down with excitement... or at least as much as a woman who is about to have a baby in two weeks can. If your wondering where I got the pattern... sorry to disappoint you, but I made it up on a whim. I do have the makings in progress for writing up the pattern and I'm hoping to have a free download available soon. Although it will be for a standard baby bag not the HP-Slytherin version. I don't want a certain writer coming after me for copyright violations;)

FO: Pea Pod Baby Set

Pattern: Pea Pod Baby Set by Kate Gilbert (Ravelry link)

Yarn: 4 skeins Knit Picks Shine Sport in the Terra Cotta colorway

Needles: US 6

Start Date: April 8, 2008

End Date: April 21, 2008

Comments: I wish I had a six month old baby just sitting around some were to model this sucker, but unfortunately it will be gifted before that ever happens. This item is so quick... got the yarn on a Tuesday and cast-on that night. Come the following Wednesday I had seamed my last tail. And dudes...I didn't touch it all that weekend. Talk about fast. The hat is just as quick. Come on...seriously, the hat took only one day. Shine Sport is super fabulous to work with...I'm wondering if I could possibly make a summer tank. opps. I digress.

Don't you just love it when you find the right buttons?

Okay, lets get closer:

I've been extremely lucky to have found likable buttons at Hancock Fabric. They're the only place with a wide selection. These buttons in particular have a pearl shine and hard to photograph, but you can kinda see the swirly design on that bottom picture. Love It!
