FO: WendyKnits Summer Mystery Shawl 2013

SummerMKAL2013-FO-flat

Pattern: Summer Mystery Shawl 2013 KAL by Wendy Knits

Yarn: 1 skein of Fyberspates Scrumptious Lace in gold

Needle: US 7 circular

Started: July 31, 2013

Finished: September 11, 2013

Notes: Didn't change a thing. It was a perfect knit. There are three sizes available and I went for the largest one. With over a 1000 yds, I knew I wanted to use as much as I could. I still have plenty of leftovers!! The final blocked size was 80 inches wide and 40 inches in height.

These shots where taken at the Riverwalk in downtown Naperville. I'm so in love with this location. It is on the short list for future photo shoots.

A Little Something...

That needs to be finished is the Wendy Knits Summer Mystery Knit-along... ready for blocking...

Lace is off the needles, now for a bath and blocking!

And then BAM! with a 80 inch width and a 40 inch height... it looks like I'll need to grab another set of blocking boards...

Looks like I need more blocking boards.

I had just realized that I never showed my finished project for the Summer Solstice Mystery Shawl Knit-along!

I finished so quickly that I almost forgot I actually knit the thing.

Here are the spec's from the project:

Pattern: Summer Solstice Mystery Shawl Knit-along! by Wendy Johnson

Yarn: Ella Rae Lace Merino in Lime Green or other wise known as Color 3

Needles: US 7 circular needle

Started: June 20, 2012

Finished: July 22, 2012

The pattern had called for a US 5 needle, but since I've had experience with Wendy's shawl patterns before I knew I'd have to increase that size. It turned out perfectly. The piece definitely needs a closure as it seems like it wanted to fly away, so that was easily fixed by attaching a button to one end. I use a yarn-over hole as a way to secure it.

I did do some modifications...added all the extra repeats suggested except for the last set in part E of the pattern. I was running out of yarn fast and knew I had to make a choice. The skein has 460 yards and the pattern calls for 420-450 in order to make the smallest size. I knew I wanted length, so I went for it. I ended up with only 5g of yarn left. Enough to add another mitered square to my Left Over Sock Yarn Blanket. Talk about using every inch!!

FO: Summer Vacation Shawlette

This little project was what I worked on while on vacation in Florida. I cast-on just before taking off and by the following weekend I had that puppy finished.

Pattern: Summer Mystery Shawlette by Wendy Johnson

Yarn: 1 skein Ella Rae Lace Merino

Needles: US 7 & US 5 circular needle

Started: June 10, 2011

Finished: June 26, 2011

My gauge was a little off and so my project turned out smaller then it was suppose to. Blocked measurements were said to be 54 inches wide by 25 inches high. Ummmm, yeah. This baby came out to 38.5 inches wide by 17 inches high. Hahahaha!

Wow... well guess who has claimed the shawl for herself. You guess it, Miss Mac.

Loved the pattern, loved the yarn.

The bright side is that I have plenty of left overs for my sock yarn blanket;)

FO: Laminaria

Laminaria-FO3

Pattern: Laminaria by Elizabeth Freeman

Yarn: 1 skein Stitch Sisterz Lace weight cashmere, 100g ball in the Lime colorway

Needles: US 5 circular needle

Started: November 26, 2010

Finished: January 1, 2011

I loved making this and have even contemplated making another. The yarn is fabulous to work with and even making the largest size shawl I could have added repeats to make this even larger.

The only reason why I didn't was because I was concerned about the need to have at least 1/3 of the yarn in reserve to finish the edge charts and bind off using two strands.

This will most likely be the only shot with me wearing it, as the temps in Chicago are ridiculously cold. Wind chill this morning was around 10 degrees.

You know, if I hadn't ripped back a full chart repeat I would have been done with this before Christmas. A lace shawl in a months time. Yeah, that is crazy, but a good crazy.

Intro to Laminaria

Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. I was on vacation for the whole week and I have to say it's the best time to do it. Gets you in gear to handle the remainder of the year and the long bout of cold months to come.

The family was in town for a quick visit and it was perfect, yet not long enough. Is it ever? Then the cooking began and much was consumed. It was then on Friday... the infamous Black Friday where I had no obligations, no commitments and enjoyed a lazy day of knitting in my pajamas. sigh.

It was on that day that I ripped the Citron out and cast on for Laminaria. I was hooked. Even more because I'm using my Signature needles which work this lace like nobodies business!

The pattern is fun and kinda addicting. Lace is really a big ball of bla while your knitting it, but if you stretch it out a bit you can see those cool star shapes.

I'm all kinds of excited about this.

In other knitting news I bound off for the Hills of Ireland and I think I need more yarn. I'm going to block the heck out of it and see where to go from there.
