Just Lazy?

I'm not sure if I've ever really posted pet-peeves on this blog...I may have ran a rant now and again, but I just feel like letting a little something out.

It is always inevitable that on the commute train ride home I run into a situation when coming off the platform. Most commuters stand and wait to exit the train before said stop. I know I do it...I stand along with everyone else while the train is pulling into the station. Everyone exits in an orderly fashion, most commuters stand early to be the first ones off. Okay...no issue there, I do that on occasion as well. What really pulls my chain is when your exiting the platform, you come to two double doors. Since spring is here, usually one door is held open. Why is it that every single person wants to go through the open door? The other door isn't broken...it's not stuck, nor heavy. These people are just lazy!!! They would rather be in line to go through an already open door, then to use there hands and open the other? This issue causes a line of sluggish people waiting to go home. Almost everyday, I take a risk of walking beyond the Safe Yellow Line to walk around this mess, to open the free door that no one seems to see is there.

---sigh. I feel better now.

Blocked & Missing Needle

I'm happy to report that all the pieces to the Hoodie are blocked. Here are the sleeves. There a bit long, but I can always roll up the cuffs, right?

I've started another project but tossed it to the side after the pieces were dry. I seemed the shoulders and picked up stitches for creation of the hoodie part of the Hoodie;)

My only dislike is the rough job at picking up stitches for the creation of the hood. I've got some holes that I really didn't notice and by the time I did, I didn't want to go back. I'm thinking I'll just fix it when I see everything else together. I just don't want to make it a hard edge, but the holes have got to go.

The major tragedy this evening is that my one of Boyed size US 7 needles is MIA. I was using it very casually as my cable needle and I only seem to have one on hand. Very sad, as I need it for the final rib edging. Oy!

Jury Duty

In anticipation of my long day where I could possibly be FORBIDDEN to knit, I choose a project that didn't involve metal needles.

I brought my Cherry Tree Hill yarn (dusk colorway) and bamboo needles to the SnB group last night to be blessed by Knitters. Cast-on for a standard toe-up sock. Placed my project inside my knitting bag along with the Harlots Cast-Off book, pencils and sketch pad.

Arriving early, the security line was long but once the doors opened everything went fast. Walked up to the metal detectors, placed my bag on the conveyor belt and held my breath.

Why was I so nervous? It's not like I was planning on stabbing someone with my needles. Ha! For a gross look at needle stabbing: link. Back to reality: I watched the lady officer watch the bag go through the monitor...no expression...still holding breath...she moves over to say something to other officer standing to her left...she's talking about me. I know it!!! She's going to pull my bag out and proclaim that I'm a crazy knitter for thinking I could bring such dangerous things into the court house.

Nothing...I exhale and still nothing.

Walk through metal detector and I'm in the clear. I was amazed! I can KNIT!! Hurray! I was so excited that when I went up the information booth to ask for directions from a very nice officer...

"Good morning, I've got jury duty and..."

"I'm sorry." he said with a smile.

I was totally going to burst out and yell "Oh, No...It's a good day! They let me in with my killer bamboo needles" ~instead I just smiled and kept my mouth shut...not going to press my luck.

This is what I got done during my jury sentence...

I didn't sketch, and kinda bummed that I didn't at least do a small one. It's just that it cuts into that damn knitting time.

Other knitting news: Central Park Hoodie is blocking tonight. The measurements seem a tad off, but I'm sure it will come out fine. All that's left is seaming the pieces, creating the button ban and knitting the hoodie. I think maybe another two weeks, but you never know. I could get the fire in my needles and be wearing it to my next meeting...yeah right;)

I just about cracked up when I saw how Mac helped in making dinner crescents. Can you tell which ones are hers?

And here is her scary face...I know, when in dought post pic of cute kids;)

CHECK THIS OUT: Lets Knit 2gether...check it out, pretty cool interview with the Harlot and other knitters who where in at the NY Represent Launch.

Knit-On

Thank you all for responding to my last post. You’re all very sweet for commenting and letting me know you read my blog. Receiving your comments was like getting one great big hug...greatly appreciated:)

I wanted to bring an opportunity forward to all who might be interested. Weeks back I had designed a T-shirt for the Harlot’s Represent. The design originated from an inspiration Stephanie's had passed on without even knowing it. At a book signing back in 2006, she had written “Knit-On” on the inside page of my book. Those words rang very deep with me, to the point that when a request for a Knitter’s Slogan came around...it was the first thing to pop into my head. At the beginning of April, the Harlot made her presence and I presented her with my creation. A t-shirt with the slogan: Knit-On. It’s a Lifestyle.

I decided to offer up the last remaining t-shirts as part of my donation to the 3-Day Cancer Walk. Several good friends of mine are taking part in the Chicago event come August 10-12, 2007 and I want to support them as best I can. What a better way to give then to help friends. The donations gathered from these t-shirts will be split among the knitter-3-day-walkers: Aleta, Rebecca, Mary Bridget and who could forget the knitter-hubby Jason.

There are Six XL Beef-Tee shirts remaining from the first batch and the T-shirts will be sold for $20 (this includes shipping). If demand increases after these have been taken, then production will take some time to produce more. If you are interested in placing an order, please email me at mommy_of_mac AT yahoo DOT com (replace the AT with @ and the DOT with . ) First come, first serve – if you get a message reply of “On Back Order”, just know that your t-shirt is in the production phase. I will except Paypal or personal checks (once received and money is transferred, tee will be shipped).

Knit-On!

April Funk

I have gotten into a funk and I’ve truly felt like whatever I would post about would just come out sounding like poo. A Knitter Review member posted a question to all bloggers... Do you write for an audience or not? At first I was like, no, but then truly if your writing, aren’t you writing as if someone is reading it? And unless I take the time to think about what I’m writing, my post sounds something like this...I Like Yarn...I can knit...Isn’t this pretty...Look what I can do. I then start to say to myself...self, what are you doing? Of course anyone who reads this is going...Yeah, I see you like yarn. Okay, you knit, I get it but you probably do it to often.

BUT...What if I want to say more? Does anyone have a clue as to what I’m talking about? Do any other bloggers go thru the extensive thought process to then come up blank? I think, I want to be witty, I want to be cool, I want...I want to be more then what I am. Why? Why do I need to be more then what I am.

I’m ranting now and if you feel you need to skip this part, scroll down and see pictures of my status on the Central Park Hoodie.

RANT CONTINUED: This is my emotional week...I don’t like posting about gross bodily functions and all, but yes PMS is in full swing. I’ve had my full share of caffeine, I baked homemade chocolate chip cookies and the purging of one room has lifted my spirits. I wont bother you with my internal struggle of producing a well written piece of blogger crap and I’ll just stick to my guns, knowing that I will always do the best that I can, when I can.

Okay, on to the more important subject matter: KNITTING!

The weather is amazing and I just couldn't live with myself if I didn't go out for a walk. Across the street is the park and flowers are in bloom...I think I freaked out the muggles taking pictures of knitting;) CPL back and two fronts complete. I’ve cast-on the sleeves and it’s going along very smoothly. The pattern is very easy to do and I’m finding myself daydreaming of this project in several yarn choices. Most of my mistakes have been when I made quick decisions or just kept knitting like the wind and didn’t notice how far I’d gotten. I will have to put this sucker on hold for perhaps 3 weeks...and that’s probably why I’m also in a funk. I want to knit this up and wear it. Yet, birthdays are around the corner and should consider knitting a personal item. Would I be a bad knitter for just buying a gift?

Jury duty is this coming Thursday and I still need to decide what project to bring. Most likely they’ll be socks, but I don’t think I should bring my Addi Turbo circ’s...maybe just some simple bamboo to get thru the metal detectors. The only other project I’m thinking of taking is a sketch book. My first passion and if you pricked my finger, India ink would spew. I haven’t drawn in a really long time, longer then I’m comfortable in telling. After purging the storage room and reminiscing thru my old sketch books...I think it’s time to bring it around again.

Are We There Yet?

Oh, I'm soooooo wanting to wear this sucker and I just can't knit it fast enough. The back is done and on it's stitch holder waiting to be seamed. The front panels got cast-on Sunday night and already I'm close to the shape decreases. Sorry for the bad pictures, but the work lights are all I had.

UPDATE: Central Park Hoodie

I know I've been a bad blogger...no pictures lately, but I hope to win you over with a progress shot of my Central Park Hoodie. The back is done and waiting on a stitch holder and these are the two front panels:

This knits up quickly and I know even if I don't get this completely off my needles till end of May, I'll have plenty of afternoons/evenings in this crazy Chicago weather to show it off. With May coming quickly, I have to think about possible knitting birthday gifts and of course there is always Mother's Day (I see you smiling Mom). I just have to think of what to do and how quickly I can knit something up. Oh, the horrors of planning knitting projects...I don't know how I'll ever survive;)

Just Don't

What kind of answer is that?

I call up the Markham Courthouse (general number) and get a busy tone? hummmm. I figure they keep shorten hours, should I expect them to be gone at 4pm on a weekday? is this normal? Pass it off for a typical Monday attitude. Call this afternoon and the phone just rings and rings...I stay on for a complete 30 seconds. hummmm. It's only 11:15 am. So, I go online and look up the number, perhaps I'm wrong. I see a few other numbers listed and one is for Jury Room. Who better to answer my question then the actual place I'll be sitting for hours and hours.

Ring. Ring.

"Hello?"

--odd, not a standard greeting? I would have expected something like, "You've reached the Jury Room. How may I help you?

me: Good afternoon, I will be attending jury duty next week and I have a question about bringing knitting along with me to pass the time.

her: Just don't.

--huh?

me: Are you saying that it's just not allowed?

her: Don't bother, bring something else.

me: Are you saying that knitting in the courthouse is not allowed?

her: I just wouldn't.

me: Just wouldn't bring the knitting because?....

her: sigh...I've seen some people knit.

me: Soooo, your saying you can't tell me because security decides who can bring what?

her: yes.

Does it always have to be like pulling teeth? Was that so hard? My goodness, my visual image of this woman is some lazy, nail filing, take long lunches, leaves for home early, chats to much, gum chewing slob.

I'm bringing my knitting and if they don't like it then I'll have a back up book or something.

KNITTING NEWS: finished the back of the hoodie and casted-on for the two fronts. I'm knitting them at the same time, so they'll be perfect;)

Look Ma, No Hands!

WHY HAD I NOT GOTTEN THIS SOONER!!!!! Holy-Cow, I'm tempted to go into my stash and pull every skein out and swift it up;)

More knitting news...I've got jury duty next week...and I'm kinda gleeful. I see the potential for more knitting time. hehehehe;) Anyone else had needle issues with court? I would hate. hate. HATE. to have to be there for 7 hours and NOT get to knit.

Class Schedule is Golden

I just got confirmation of my class schedule for Stitches Midwest 2007. I'm soooooo totally geeked out right now. My Saturday class is with Susanne Hansson on Off the Cuff and Sunday is with Nancy Bush on Overcoming Fear of Cutting.

Both of these ladies have so much knowledge, I just hope a little can seep into my big head;) Now, I just need to get my schedule together with my SnB gal and hotel reservations...and...and it's still how many months away till August? Oh Bother! I certainly don't want to rush the year along, but tang!

On the knitting news...trekking candies have been frogged...no photo to show tears shedding on yarn. It's just not pretty.

Hoodie on the other hand is soaring away to the point where I knitted to far and had to rip back about an inch. I swear it was 7 1/2 inches one second then the next it was 9 1/2...at least I can decrease for the shoulders and get this puppy off and start on the fronts? or sleeves? hummmmmm...

Knit-On folks;)

Catch Up...

WARNING to all Knitters, don’t schedule a 6:30 am flight and expect to knit at all. First off getting up at 3am does not leave you refreshed enough to even hold needles and Second, there isn’t enough daylight on the way to knit by.

Candy Trekking are coming along...

I might frog these, they just seem so tight and there is no point in finishing something that wont be comfortable in the end.

I also got to knit some of the hoodie:

While visiting family, I got to get some goodies from Knit ‘n Knibble.

Yummy bright sunrise Lorna’s Lace, Dusk Cherry Tree Hill and earthy Tweed Regia. I also couldn’t resist the Cables Untangled. So much knitting and so little time.

And just to make you all jealous...a few shots from the Sunny Side;)

Looks like fun, Huh? Oh, yeah...now, back to knitting.

Update: Sunny Side

I jumped on my Dad's Internet to see some 50 emails unread, and Bloglines is listing out 37 unread blogs...I feel out of the loop, yet loving the time to relax...

I'll just say this: hour delay in plan arriving at destination; DVD player running CARS for a total of 30 minutes before battery runs out; 40 minute drive to parents house...all equal extra knitting time;) Having a great time and don't mind the thunder storms either...more knitting time. I'm I obsessed or what?

I would post pictures, but alas, I'm a MAC gal and Pops is PC...yeah, I know. It's okay, we get along just fine.

Kisses and Chocolate chip cookies all. Knit-On.

Missed the SNB night!! I'll see you all next week.

Sugar Comatose Sunday

Trekking candy sweetness for my toes. I'm taking these on the flight tonight, I hope I don't have any issues with security. I think I'll put an self addressed envelope in my purse just in case.

I've also packed by Central Park Hoodie with 3 skeins...I'm not sure how much knitting I'll get done while visiting the family, but it's nice to know I can if I want.

Now, it's all about making sure Miss Mac doesn't overload on the sweets...each egg has a surprise. Oh, Boy! Is that chocolate drool I see?

Knitters In Chicago Rock the Borders

Oh, Stephanie...I must apologize for I was star-struck and most likely looked like a crazy knitter but some how I feel you understand. I truly hope you enjoyed Chicago, even if the sirens woke you from a much needed nap.

I don’t know how you do it...I would be a wreck. The crowd had started gathering at five (from what I heard) and we (meaning me and Knitterary) made it in time to claim a piece of carpet up front with just enough time before the 7:30 launch. We all laughed, cried and we seriously freaked out the muggles.

When we first got there, we made our way through the crowd and everyone around us was taking turns showing off the knitting, big crowd, lots of socks. Oy, worries...did I remember to bring the camera? Check. You want pictures...sure:

There...you look good, sweater showing off - great shot...and the hair looks tame.

Now, it's time for the blurry side of things. I don't think your the only one effected by the blurry-issues;)

I hope you like the Knit-On T-shirt...I loved designing it. I did have a whole little speech prepared just so I wouldn’t look and feel like a complete arse. But alas when I stood up to the table, it all went out the window. Thank you for being patient and providing us with humorous knitting material. My checks hurt and it felt good;)

Chicago Represent

We’re off the see the Harlot, the wonderful knitter of ...Oz?

What a Monday I had...I think I’m still drunk people. My head is swimming, my throat is dry, my tummy wants more prime rib...oh, was that delicious. Me and my family were graciously invited to Seder with Becca and Aleta’s clan, which they are a hoot. MB and Knitterary were there too...we really should have broke out the knitting needles, but I was 4 glasses into the wine and feeling fine;) There would be no way that the stitches would come out looking anything decent. Had a blast ladies, you really know how to do it up!

As far as the Harlot...I’m super-de-dooper-star-struck to meet her again. I’ve come up with a plan and it involves this:

The idea had first been created from Guido’s slogan request back when they where planning the big NY Launch for the Today Show. This design was good, but it had bigger plans then TV. The request was a challenge to my design skills and really got me thinking about “what stands for knitting” I looked down and saw Stephanie’s book Yarn Harlot: The Secret Life of a Knitter and on the inside she signed it with the tag: Knit-On. That really hit the nail on the head and all I need was a little something more to bind it with others who feel this way. Our lives are so tangled together with fiber...we sleep dreaming about fiber, we meet others and talk about fiber, we blog about fiber and any spare moment we’re involved with fiber. It’s not just a hobby...It’s a lifestyle. I worked some magic and got Tee-Shirts made up.

What do you think? Will she dig it??

I'm a little disappointed in the Tee-shirt company...the image is suppose to much larger and doesn't make much of a statement as I had planned. You can't even read the small print on the back ground that states YARN, LOVE, PEACE, KNIT...I bet if there was a knitter working for the tee-shirt company, it would have been done right.

It's Only Monday?

My heart is a thumping and I’m super nervous? Why you ask. I’m crushing on Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Last year, I had just gotten to know her blog and had whipped thru her book right before book signing. I went and was star struck by how well she could see into my soul. She said everything that I could not and now this amazing woman was sitting right in front me and what did I say? Was I prepared? Hell-No!!! AHHHHH! I told her she was an amazing writer and knitter. That was it. I wanted to run and hide. I don’t do well in situations like that, and most people who know me, know I’m quite and have to think thru what I want to say and how I want to say it. I’m not sure, but I believe most people to be very witty and able to work a the fly. That isn’t me. So, I’m writing a speech. Yes, I’m a dork, but if I want to say all I can tomorrow, I have to...other wise I’d more then likely, say “your cool” and that would be it. Go ahead and laugh...I know I am.

I have gifts to bring and hopefully she will be awed by them. I know the Froebe Fiber clan will not be able to attend and so I will bring stuff;) I too have something for the Harlot and I truly hope she likes...I’ll post more about that tomorrow as I’m hoping (fingers-crossed) that the package comes soon. Otherwise this teaser is nothing but a very bad and late April Fools joke.

Oh, yeah...if your reading this please call: 630.574.2409 it’s the number to the Borders in Oak Brook. Ask to make reservations to the Harlot’s appearance on Tuesday. Lets freak out the muggles as much as possible;)

Alas, I gauged for the candy Trekking socks and I’m getting 10 stitches to the inch...ouch, I think I’ll just wait till the STR twisted rib socks are off the needles or is this reason enough to purchase two extra Addi Turbo size 1 circ’s? At 13 bucks a pop...maybe not;)

Current update on the Twisted Rib STR’s...

I’ve also made another yarn cake for the Hoodie...and what do I see in my inbox? Oh, yes a 40 % off coupon to Joann Fabric’s online store...maybe it’s time for the swift?

Hey, Knitterary? Did you get that photo thing to work yet???

When It Rains...

It Pours.

Hubby, who has just been hired for a new job, received a contact from another opportunity. Now it’s a matter of weighting the pro’s verse the con’s.

I guess it’s good to have options.

One thing I love about knitting is that if you don’t like what you’ve done so far, you rip it out and create something new.

I’m super, head-over heels in love with this hoodie...and when I noticed that the cables where coming out very elongated. I decided to eliminate 2 rows from the pattern repeat. My gauge swatch was extended by two rows and I believe that this actually works out for a more tight looking cable. What do you think?

I’ve knitted one full skein and since I don’t own a swift to help me make more yarn cakes, I switched over to my socks that super rock!!

I’ve turned the heel and I can’t wait to get these on my feets;)

I figure to be done with these soon and I have to decided on my next small project...could it be more socks? OF COURSE!!! After the last yarn disaster, I’m going for some Trekking candy yummies.

Hoping to cast on ASAP!!! Because this week is going to fly by super quickly. Monday is Passover with friends and family. Tuesday is REPRESENT KNITTING with the Harlot in Oak Brook. Wednesday, Amy Singer will be signing her new book at Loopy Yarns in Chicago then I get to go hang with the SnB gals afterwards. Then before you know it, I jump on a plane and head to Tampa for a week of fun and sun. Gosh, I need it.

I have a teaser post for Tuesday...and please stay tuned for more Representing Coverage. Knit-On!
